Bidibidi, Yumbe – March 26, 2025

Yumbe District Local Government today celebrated a belated World Water Day at Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, Zone 2, Village 3, focusing on the theme "Glacier Preservation."

The event brought together key stakeholders, including Water Mission Uganda and other humanitarian agencies operating in the district, to emphasize the importance of sustainable water management and environmental conservation.

Speaking at the event, officials highlighted the urgent need to protect water sources and glaciers, which are crucial for maintaining global water supplies. The discussions also underscored the impact of climate change on water resources, particularly in vulnerable communities like refugee settlements.

Representatives from Water Mission Uganda reaffirmed their commitment to providing safe water solutions in refugee-hosting areas. They called for increased efforts in water conservation, technological innovations, and community engagement to ensure sustainable access to clean water.

Participants engaged in various activities, including awareness campaigns, tree planting, and demonstrations on water purification techniques. Refugees and host community members expressed appreciation for the continued support from humanitarian agencies in ensuring reliable water access.

World Water Day, officially marked on March 22 each year, serves as a global platform to advocate for clean and sustainable water resources. Yumbe District’s belated celebration reinforced the importance of collective action in tackling water-related challenges and protecting the environment for future generations.
