Koboko, Uganda – March 25, 2025

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in West Nile have urged the party leadership to prioritize compensation for tobacco farmers and victims of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency. They also called for fair resource distribution across the region ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The MPs made their appeal during a meeting with NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong in Koboko. The discussion was attended by district leaders, LC5 chairpersons, and NRM administrative secretaries from various districts in the region.

The leaders emphasized that unresolved compensation claims for tobacco farmers, who have suffered financial losses over the years, and victims of the LRA war, who continue to struggle with the effects of past atrocities, remain critical concerns for their constituents. They argued that addressing these grievances would demonstrate the government's commitment to justice and equitable development.

Todwong, who is currently leading a tour of the region to assess the implementation of the NRM manifesto, assured the leaders that their concerns would be presented to the relevant authorities. He reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring that government programs benefit all Ugandans equitably.

The meeting is part of a broader engagement by the NRM Secretariat to gather feedback from local leaders on development gaps and challenges facing communities in West Nile.

As Uganda approaches the 2026 elections, the demand for compensation and fair resource allocation is expected to remain a key issue in political discussions across the region.
