KAMPALA, UGANDA – March 21, 2025:
The Commander Land Force of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, has called on UPDF troops to maintain discipline and professionalism as they prepare for deployment to South Sudan under "Operation Mlinzi wa Kimya."
The deployment comes in response to a request by South Sudanese President Salva Kiir, who reached out to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for immediate support in stabilizing the country following the outbreak of renewed conflict.
While addressing and leading the troops, who are under the command of Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi, Lt Gen Muhanga emphasized the importance of their mission. He urged the contingent to remain committed to maintaining peace and security in South Sudan, stressing that their conduct should uphold the values and standards of the UPDF.
“Our core mission is to foster peace, security, and stability. Upholding discipline and professionalism is not optional but a key pillar of our success,” Lt Gen Muhanga stated.
The UPDF troops are set to reinforce ongoing peacekeeping efforts and play a crucial role in preventing further escalation of violence in the conflict-stricken nation.
Uganda’s deployment marks a significant step in regional peacekeeping collaboration, as efforts intensify to restore calm and support the people of South Sudan.
