Kampala, Uganda – March 12, 2025 – Uganda’s National CCTV Surveillance System is performing at an efficiency rate of between 85% and 95%, with some districts achieving full operational capacity, according to the Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Hon. David Muhoozi.Providing an update on the project’s progress, Muhoozi highlighted that since its implementation in 2018, the system has played a key role in national security, enabling law enforcement to manage 42,417 operational and intelligence-led incidents

Additionally, 6,688 cases have been thoroughly investigated using CCTV footage, leading to significant improvements in crime detection and public safety. With the success of the first two phases, the Uganda Police Force is now preparing to launch Phase Three of the project. This next stage will focus on:

  • Increasing camera coverage to eliminate blind spots.
  • Introducing body-worn cameras for police officers to enhance accountability and real-time incident recording.
  • Expanding data center capacity to handle the growing demand for storage and video processing.

The CCTV expansion is part of Uganda’s broader effort to modernize security operations and improve response time in crime prevention. Authorities believe that with enhanced surveillance, crime rates will continue to decline, and law enforcement efficiency will improve. As the rollout of Phase Three approaches, the government remains committed to ensuring that the system is optimized for national security while also addressing concerns related to privacy and data management.
