A three-month-old baby has tragically lost its life following a domestic altercation that spiraled out of control in Kamurinda Cell, Runyinya Parish, Kigarama Subcounty, Sheema District.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on the night of January 31, 2025, leaving the community in shock and mourning.Police have arrested Ahimbisibwe Naboth (51) and Ntoreine Reagan (19), both residents of the area, as investigations into the infant’s death intensify.

According to police reports, the incident began when Ntoreine Reagan got into a heated argument with his wife, Namaganda Mariam, around 9:00 PM. The quarrel quickly escalated into a physical fight, forcing Mariam to flee to a neighbor’s house in fear for her safety.

In the chaos, she left their three-month-old baby sleeping alone in bed. When she returned home the following morning, she discovered the baby had tragically passed away.

The baby’s body has been taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police are treating the case with urgency, and while the circumstances remain unclear, the arrests of Naboth and Reagan point to potential foul play or neglect.

Authorities are investigating whether the infant’s death resulted from direct harm, accidental causes, or the trauma surrounding the domestic violence incident.

The incident has left the Sheema community devastated. Neighbors describe the situation as a senseless tragedy that could have been prevented.

“This is beyond heartbreaking. A baby, an innocent soul, has paid the price for a family’s conflict,” said a local resident. “We need to start talking about domestic violence before more lives are lost.”

This incident sheds light on the growing crisis of domestic violence in Uganda, where many disputes escalate to fatal consequences.

Human rights activists are now calling for:

  • Stricter enforcement of domestic violence laws.
  • Community-based interventions to support victims.
  • Public education campaigns on the dangers of domestic abuse.

Law enforcement officials have assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in the investigation.

“We condemn any form of violence, especially when it endangers innocent lives. We will ensure justice is served,” said a police spokesperson.

As the Sheema community grapples with this tragedy, the message is clear: domestic violence is not just a private matter—it’s a societal crisis that demands urgent attention.
