As Uganda joined the rest of world to celebrate International world teachers’ day on 05th/10/2022,teachers in both Arua city and the district under their umbrella body of Uganda national teachers Union[UNATU] appealed to the members of parliament to retable the issue of the salary difference between the science and Art teachers. During the celebration on the same day for both Arua city and the district , Phillip Andama, the chairperson of Uganda national teachers’ union [UNATU] revealed that the recent salary increased by the government for the science teachers alone is causing a lot of trouble among the teachers which is affecting the Education of learners.’’ All are teachers why discriminate, yet we are the same says Phillip Amdama’’.

The chairperson of Uganda national teachers’ union [UNATU] for Arua district says that even the salary of teachers are not pay in the time, an issue that government need to improve on.
Secretary for social service for Arua city, Fadimullah Kalsum Abdu noted that most of the head teachers in Arua city are acting, the issue that they need to also address.

Recently, government announced that science teachers with degrees will be earning shs 4 million and diploma holder’s shs 3 million starting in July 2023 while their counterparts in the art teachers remains at shs 900,000 only. Professor, Dr. Rev Father Epiphany Picwo Odubuker, the vice chancellor in charge of administration and finance of Muni university says if the matter of salary difference between the science and art teachers is not settle by the government it will affect the learners and the future generation in this country.
The area Member of Parliament for Ayivu East, Geoffrey Feta accepted to push for the retabling of the issue again in parliament for discussion.

A comparative study by Nation Newsplex and the institute of Economic affairs has revealed that Kenyan teachers are not only the best paid in Africa, but also earn almost 12 times more than Ugandan teachers. Kenyan teachers earns wages that area at least 44 percent above the average wage, while Ugandan peers earns 35 percent more.
