Rhino Camp Settlement, Arua District — March 19, 2025

Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, has concluded a high-profile visit to Rhino Camp Settlement in Uganda’s West Nile region, where he assessed ongoing Sweden-funded refugee interventions.

During his tour, Minister Dousa met with newly arrived refugees from South Sudan and Sudan, listening to their stories and challenges since fleeing conflict. His visit underscored Sweden’s continued commitment to supporting displaced communities in Uganda, which hosts the largest refugee population in Africa.

At Ocea Primary School, the minister engaged with learners and teachers, witnessing firsthand how Sweden’s support is enhancing access to education for refugee children. He commended the efforts being made to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to learn in a safe environment.

Minister Dousa also interacted with beneficiaries of the Nutri-Cash Program, a nutrition-sensitive cash assistance initiative aimed at improving food security and the well-being of vulnerable households. He expressed satisfaction with the program’s positive impact on combating malnutrition and promoting self-reliance among refugee families.

“Uganda’s refugee model is globally recognized, and Sweden is proud to contribute to these life-changing programs,” Minister Dousa stated. “Our continued partnership with Uganda is focused on promoting dignity, resilience, and sustainable livelihoods for displaced communities.”

The visit reaffirms the strong bilateral ties between Uganda and Sweden, particularly in humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.
