Entebbe, Uganda – March 28, 2025
Kenyan opposition leader and African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, Raila Odinga, has arrived in Entebbe, Uganda, for a high-level briefing with President Yoweri Museveni. The discussions come in the wake of Odinga’s recent fact-finding mission on the political situation in South Sudan.
Odinga, who has been actively engaged in regional peace efforts, expressed optimism about finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing political uncertainties in South Sudan. In a statement upon his arrival, he emphasized the need to prevent further escalation of tensions in Africa’s youngest nation.
“I remain hopeful that a peaceful way out of the political uncertainty in South Sudan is possible, and further escalation can be avoided,” Odinga stated.
President Museveni, a key regional mediator, has played a significant role in previous peace processes involving South Sudan. His meeting with Odinga is expected to explore diplomatic interventions and strategies to stabilize the country, which has faced intermittent conflict since gaining independence in 2011.
The visit underscores continued efforts by regional leaders to foster stability in South Sudan, where peace agreements have faced challenges in implementation. Both leaders are expected to deliberate on actionable steps to reinforce dialogue among stakeholders in Juba.
Further details on their discussions are yet to be disclosed, but observers believe the meeting signals a renewed push for sustainable peace in the region.
