Kiboga, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has once again emphasized the critical role of wealth creation in addressing unemployment, calling it a cornerstone for sustainable job creation in the country.
Speaking at a public rally on Thursday in Kiboga West constituency, the President concluded his wealth creation tour of the Greater Mubende sub-region by urging Ugandans to embrace private sector-led initiatives, particularly in agriculture, as a viable path to economic independence and employment.
“The government jobs—teachers, doctors, security personnel, sub-county and parish chiefs—are only 480,000, yet the population is now at 46 million. So, government jobs alone can’t help us,” President Museveni stated.
He highlighted commercial agriculture and dairy farming as promising sectors for job creation, citing the example of Hon. Fred Byamukama, the Minister of State for Transport, whose farm in Bugangaizi, Kagadi District, employs over 26 workers. “Even the least paid person on his farm earns 200,000 shillings monthly,” the President noted.
Museveni urged Ugandans, especially the youth, to shift their focus from chasing limited government jobs to creating wealth through farming, value addition, and other private sector ventures.
The tour is part of a broader government strategy to sensitize communities on enterprise selection and wealth generation, in line with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the Parish Development Model.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting commercial farmers and entrepreneurs with access to affordable credit, markets, and agricultural extension services.
