Arua, Uganda – April 16, 2025

In a major development welcomed with excitement and gratitude across the West Nile region, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged to pay UGX 13 billion in the next financial year to former servicemen in the area. The payment is part of a UGX 26 billion compensation package long awaited by the veterans.

This announcement was received with jubilation by communities across the region, particularly by the ex-servicemen and their families, who have for years petitioned the government for recognition and compensation for their service.

“We are not only grateful to you, Mr. President, but also deeply excited by this development,” said local leaders and representatives of the veterans. “It is a sign of the government’s continued commitment to honor the sacrifices made by our people.”

The President’s pledge adds to a string of recent investments and infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the West Nile sub-region. From road upgrades and health facilities to energy and education initiatives, the government has been keen on accelerating development in the region.

Local MPs and stakeholders have lauded the move, noting that this is not only a step towards justice for the veterans but also a boost to the local economy. “This payment will significantly improve the livelihoods of many families and restore dignity to our heroes,” one official remarked.

As the region anticipates the first installment of the payment in the upcoming financial year, citizens remain hopeful for continued support and inclusive growth under the NRM government.

This latest development reaffirms the government's commitment to delivering on its promises and ensuring that no region is left behind in Uganda’s journey of transformation.
