Juba, April 4, 2025 – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir officially saw off Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the airport today, bringing to a close a productive two-day visit focused on enhancing bilateral ties between Uganda and South Sudan.
President Museveni’s visit began with a high-level bilateral meeting involving key ministers from both countries. The discussions centered on strengthening cooperation across various sectors critical to the development and unity of the two nations.
In a notable gesture towards fostering political harmony, President Museveni also held talks with leaders of various South Sudanese political parties, including the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO). These engagements aimed to encourage dialogue and promote cooperation among South Sudanese political factions, which is seen as vital for the country’s continued path to peace and stability.
Additionally, Museveni met with signatories to the South Sudan peace agreement to assess progress on its implementation.
Speaking to the media, South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister described the visit as “successful,” noting the positive outcomes and renewed commitments from both sides.
The visit underscores the growing relationship between Uganda and South Sudan, with both leaders reaffirming their dedication to peace, regional integration, and mutual development.
