The management of West Nile rural electrification company [WENERECO] is grappling with the increasing issue of theft of power in the area. The general manager of the company, Kenneth Kigundu revealed that they have noticed illegal connection of power is going on in the area which is making them to get commercial loss of 19 percent every month, in his statement he added that the plan are under way to arrest anyone found stealing power.
The local council two of Kenya ward, Summary Ejaga affirmed that it is true the illegal power connections by non-staff of WENERECO is taking place in Arua city.
The deputy resident city commissioner of Arua, Twaib Asile says that they are ready to arrest any person found stealing power.
West Nile rural electrification company was contracted by government of Uganda and introduced to West Nile sub region in the year 2003 to generate and distribute power to the region. The company is currently producing 3.5 megga watts with the main generation station at Nyagak in Zombo district and sub stations in Ewuata, Arua district and Acii engine in upper Bibia cell in Arua city.
