KAMPALA – Members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have convened at their headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, as they prepare for a protest march to Parliament on February 10. The demonstration aims to condemn what they describe as persistent attacks by certain Members of Parliament (MPs) against their leader and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
According to PLU organizers, the march will culminate in the delivery of a petition to the Speaker of Parliament, expressing their dissatisfaction with lawmakers they accuse of disrespecting and undermining Gen. Kainerugaba. The group asserts that these MPs have engaged in unwarranted political attacks, which they believe are intended to tarnish the CDF’s reputation and derail his leadership.
The protest follows heightened tensions between some legislators and Gen. Kainerugaba, especially after recent parliamentary discussions scrutinized his public statements and leadership style. Some MPs have called for accountability regarding his influence on Uganda’s military and political affairs. However, PLU members argue that these criticisms are baseless and politically motivated.
As the group gathers in Naguru, they emphasize that their march will be peaceful but resolute in defending their leader against what they perceive as unfair treatment. Security agencies are expected to monitor the demonstration closely to ensure order as the protesters make their way to Parliament.
This event marks another chapter in the ongoing power dynamics between Uganda’s military leadership and political institutions, highlighting the growing influence of Gen. Kainerugaba’s supporters in national affairs.
