Arua City is grappling with a rising health threat as one person has died from Monkeypox, and 11 new cases have been confirmed in the region. Health officials are now issuing urgent calls for vigilance among residents to prevent further spread of the disease.

Monkeypox, a viral infection typically transmitted from animals to humans, has been gaining ground in Uganda. It can also spread between people through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, skin lesions, or respiratory droplets. As the number of cases increases, health experts are particularly concerned about the high potential for further transmission in crowded urban areas like Arua City.

The deceased, whose identity has not been revealed, is the first reported fatality from the disease in the city. Along with the 11 new cases, this marks a concerning escalation of the outbreak.

Authorities are emphasizing the importance of early detection and treatment, urging anyone who experiences symptoms to seek medical attention immediately.

The Ministry of Health has intensified its surveillance and prevention efforts, including distributing educational materials to the public about safe practices and hygiene. Residents are encouraged to avoid close contact with infected individuals and practice frequent handwashing. Health workers are also reminding the public to report any suspected cases to local clinics to ensure prompt response and containment.

Authorities also caution against the consumption of wild animals that may carry the virus, as they remain a significant source of transmission. Uganda's Ministry of Health is collaborating with international agencies and local governments to control the outbreak, with a particular focus on preventing the spread of Monkeypox to neighboring districts.

As the situation evolves, Arua City remains on high alert, and public health leaders are urging all residents to stay informed, practice safety measures, and remain vigilant in the face of the ongoing threat.
