Onduparaka FC, affectionately known as the "Caterpillars," stunned fans and stakeholders alike by missing their much-anticipated Uganda Cup round of 64 clash against Bushenyi Veterans FC.

According to Onduparaka FC the reason was heartfelt commitment to celebrate the life and legacy of one of their own – the late Agau Rashid.

Agau, a revered figure in Onduparaka FC’s history, played for the club during two memorable stints and remained an integral member until his untimely passing.

In his honour, the club prioritized the Agau Rashid Memorial match, slated for January 18, 2025, at the Ababet Greenlight Stadium.

"Agau Rashid wasn’t just a player; he was family," said a club spokesperson.

"The memorial match is more than a tribute – it’s a celebration of a life that left an indelible mark on our team and our community."

Despite their best efforts, Onduparaka FC could not secure a reschedule for their Uganda Cup match after requesting an adjustment from FUFA’s Competitions Director. The fixture, announced on January 10, conflicted with their pre-planned memorial event, leaving the club with a difficult choice.

The decision underscores the club’s deep connection to its West Nile roots. As a community-based team, Onduparaka FC chose to honour the loyalty of their fans by focusing on the memorial match.

Though the Uganda Cup absence is regrettable, the Caterpillars remain committed to their supporters.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and assure our fans that we’ll bounce back stronger. The Uganda Cup is important to us, but so is honouring those who’ve shaped our legacy,” the club added in their statement.

Onduparaka FC’s gesture has resonated deeply with their West Nile fanbase, further cementing the Caterpillars' role as more than just a football club – they are a family united by passion, history, and community.

As the team turns its focus back to the FUFA Big League, fans can rest assured that their Caterpillars remain steadfast in their quest for glory, both on and off the pitch.
