Obongi Town, Uganda – In a heartfelt ceremony held today at the Office of the President in Obongi Town, the executive committee of the Obongi Elders Association bestowed their blessings upon Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, commending his unwavering commitment to combating corruption and advancing government-funded initiatives within the district.
Led by Chairperson Mr. Aloro Ismail, the elders expressed profound gratitude to RDC Hashaka for his relentless efforts in uprooting corruption and fostering development. They emphasized their support by denouncing any individuals opposing his initiatives, labeling such adversaries as enemies of Obongi. The association also pledged to mobilize the community to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM), attributing their endorsement to the tangible progress witnessed under RDC Hashaka's leadership.
"We have decided to join the campaign against corruption in Obongi," declared Mr. Ismail, highlighting the association's commitment to integrity and transparency. He further revealed plans to petition President Yoweri Museveni, urging him to retain RDC Hashaka in his current position to continue his impactful work.
In his response, RDC Hashaka expressed deep appreciation for the elders' visit and their blessings. He reaffirmed his dedication to eradicating corruption in Obongi and lauded the Inspectorate of Government for their diligent investigations, which have led to the arrest and interdiction of five civil servants and one contractor involved in corrupt practices.
This commendation from the elders aligns with recent community support for RDC Hashaka's initiatives. Notably, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Obongi hosted special prayers two weeks ago, honoring his bold stance against corruption. The church congregation prayed for his protection and continued strength in leading the district towards ethical governance.
RDC Hashaka's tenure has been marked by proactive measures to enhance the welfare of Obongi residents. Three months ago, he successfully recovered over 1.3 million Ugandan shillings that had been extorted from beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM), ensuring that the funds were rightfully returned to the intended recipients.
Furthermore, his commitment to education was evident two months ago when he rescued pupils stranded by a flooded road, personally transporting them to access the ferry and attend their classes.
Despite facing challenges, including calls for his transfer by some local leaders citing strained relations, RDC Hashaka remains steadfast in his mission. His efforts have not only garnered local appreciation but have also been recognized by national organizations. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uganda acknowledged his role in commissioning Dongo Market, emphasizing its potential as a driver of wealth creation in the region.
The unwavering support from the Obongi Elders Association and the broader community underscores the collective desire for transparent governance and sustainable development. As RDC Hashaka continues his tenure, the district anticipates further strides towards prosperity and integrity.
