Arua City – April 16, 2025 — The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has officially commissioned a fully renovated classroom block at Oreku Primary School in Arua City, restoring hope to learners and teachers who had endured years of hardship due to a dilapidated structure.
The renovation, which cost 108 million Ugandan shillings, comes as a major relief to the school whose classrooms had been in a dire state, with one block rendered unusable after its roof was blown off by strong winds. The support from NSSF included full structural repairs and the installation of electricity—marking the first time the school has had access to power in several years.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, NSSF officials emphasized the Fund’s commitment to supporting education and community development through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
"The state of this school was heartbreaking. As NSSF, we believe that quality education begins with a safe learning environment. This investment is part of our mission to contribute to the development of communities where our members live and work," said the NSSF representative.
Local leaders and education officials lauded the gesture, noting that the improved facilities would enhance learning conditions and boost morale among both students and staff.
Oreku Primary School, which serves hundreds of children in the area, has struggled with poor infrastructure for years. The newly renovated block and provision of electricity are expected to significantly transform the learning environment.
Parents and community members expressed gratitude to NSSF, calling on other institutions and stakeholders to emulate the example and support the education sector, particularly in under-resourced areas.
The school administration confirmed that the new facilities will be put to immediate use and pledged to ensure proper maintenance to sustain the benefit for future generations.
