A model Civil Society Organisation, Alesi Foundation, has been launched in Arua City to empower men and boys to exercise their rights and jointly contribute to development.

This is aimed at sensitizing men and boys in Arua City and equipping them with skills to tap into available opportunities and support women, which will help in reducing crime rates.

Asinduru Dorcus, the Community Development Officer of Ayivu Division, notes that failure to involve men in intervention programs impacts negatively, especially in the crime rate.

The organisation envisions men and boys fully exercising their rights to social and economic development opportunities and striving to create a difference in the communities.

Office Administrator at Alesi Foundation, Asiku Farid, says recent research conducted indicates that men suffer silently in the communities and choose not to report cases.

The Executive Director of YESDEC International, Alemiga Francis, challenges leaders and Civil Society Organisations to have interventions that aim at addressing gender inequality.

Recently, the Gender Office at Arua Central Police Station, jointly with Lugbara Cultural Institutions (Lugbara Kari) and partners, started an initiative to encourage men to report cases against them.
