Makerere University has taken a significant step in improving student mobility and practical learning experiences by officially handing over field activity buses to three colleges.

The handover ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, alongside members of university management.

The colleges that received the buses include:

  1. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) – to facilitate medical students traveling to partner hospitals for clinical training.
  2. The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) – to support students engaging in agricultural research and practical fieldwork on university farmlands spread across the country.
  3. The College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources, and Biosecurity (CoVAB) – to enhance mobility for veterinary students undertaking field training, livestock management, and disease surveillance programs.

While addressing attendees, Professor Nawangwe emphasized the importance of the buses in ensuring seamless transportation for students engaged in hands-on training.

"With university farmlands located across the country and partner hospitals both in and outside Kampala, these buses will significantly ease travel for students undertaking field and practical training. This marks another step toward strengthening our commitment to experiential learning and academic excellence," he stated.

The newly acquired buses are expected to improve access to remote learning sites, reduce logistical challenges, and enhance the overall quality of education for students in the three colleges.

The university continues to prioritize infrastructure development to provide an enabling environment for both students and faculty.
