WENRECo has tailored its tariffs to meet the unique needs of West Nile’s growing population and economic development. These adjustments reflect advancements in the region’s energy sector, including the commissioning of the Karuma Hydro Power Plant and improved service delivery.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how WENRECo charges for electricity:

Domestic Consumers (Code 10.1)

For residential households, WENRECo offers a Lifeline Tariff to support low-income families with affordable electricity rates.

  • Lifeline Tariff (First 15 kWh): UGX 250 per kWh
  • Above 15 kWh: UGX 775.7 per kWh
  • Monthly Service Charge: UGX 3,360

Example: A household in Arua consuming 50 kWh monthly will pay UGX 34,259.5 (exclusive of VAT).

Commercial Consumers (Code 10.2)

Small businesses such as shops, salons, and workshops benefit from competitive commercial tariffs.

  • Tariff: UGX 575.2 per kWh
  • Monthly Service Charge: UGX 22,400

Example: A business consuming 200 kWh will pay UGX 137,440 (exclusive of VAT).

Medium Industrial Consumers (Code 20)

Industries like bakeries and manufacturing enterprises receive tailored rates to support growth and development.

  • Manufacturing Entities: UGX 417.8 per kWh
  • Service Providers: UGX 434.5 per kWh
  • Monthly Service Charge: UGX 22,400

Example: A bakery in Nebbi consuming 1,000 kWh will pay UGX 440,200 (exclusive of VAT).

Large Industrial Consumers (Code 30)

For larger industries crucial to West Nile’s economy, WENRECo offers reduced tariffs with higher service charges.

  • Manufacturing Entities: UGX 351.5 per kWh
  • Service Providers: UGX 367.1 per kWh
  • Monthly Service Charge: UGX 70,000

Example: A factory in Pakwach using 5,000 kWh will pay UGX 1,827,500 (exclusive of VAT).

Extra-Large Industrial Consumers

For the region’s largest industries, tariffs are negotiated based on individual consumption patterns.

  • Tariff: UGX 299.1 per kWh
  • Monthly Service Charge: Negotiated

Example: An industry consuming 10,000 kWh monthly may pay UGX 2,991,000 (exclusive of VAT).

Public Amenities (Code 50)

To ensure essential services like hospitals and schools remain sustainable, WENRECo provides a dedicated tariff.

  • Tariff: UGX 360 per kWh
  • Monthly Service Charge: UGX 3,360

Example: A public health center in Zombo using 500 kWh will pay UGX 183,360 (exclusive of VAT).
