In a bold political move, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has named singer Kalifa Aganaga as its official candidate for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election.

The announcement has turned heads, with Aganaga's star power and political ambitions now making waves across Uganda.

At FDC’s headquarters in Najjanankumbi, party president Patrick Amuriat took to the stage to introduce Aganaga, expressing his confidence in the musician’s leadership potential.

“We have spoken to our brother Aganaga, and we have learned that beneath those deadlocks, there is a competent leader, a great human,” Amuriat said, evoking laughter from the audience as he shared a light-hearted anecdote about his own youthful desire to grow dreadlocks.

Aganaga, whose real name is Mukiibi Sadat, has long been vocal about his desire to enter politics. Despite being denied the NUP ticket for Rubaga North in 2021 in favor of the current MP Abubaker Kawalya, Aganaga has remained persistent in his political journey, seeking to serve the people of Uganda.

Now, with the backing of FDC, Aganaga is ready to contest for the Kawempe North seat, bringing his passion and drive to the race.

FDC’s deputy president for Western Uganda, Robert Centenary, spoke highly of Aganaga, calling him an inspiration for young people.

“The few hours I spent with Mukiibi Sadat impressed me—his conduct, his academic credentials. Sometimes we judge people at face value. I believe he is an inspiration to young people,” Centenary remarked, drawing a comparison to the late Muhammad Segirinya, a beloved FDC leader who rose to prominence despite early challenges.

Aganaga’s candidacy adds an exciting twist to the Kawempe North by-election, which has already attracted the attention of major political players, including the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). With both parties now gearing up for the contest, it’s clear that the battle for the Kawempe North seat will be one to watch.

Along with Aganaga’s candidacy, FDC also introduced Sharif Ssebunya as its candidate for the vacant Kazo-Angola Ward councillor seat, solidifying the party’s commitment to strengthening its political presence at both local and national levels.

As the by-election approaches, all eyes are now on Aganaga to see if his star power can translate into political success. Will the music mogul-turned-politician win the hearts of Kawempe North voters and secure a seat in Parliament? Time will tell.

Stay tuned for more updates as the political race intensifies.
