In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery, Hon. Jennifer Driwaru, the Woman Member of Parliament for Maracha District, has offered a generous cash donation of UGX 10 million to support Village Health Teams (VHTs) and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs).
The donation was officially handed over during a community engagement event that drew health workers, local leaders, and residents from across the district.
Hon. Driwaru emphasized the critical role that VHTs and CHEWs play in promoting primary healthcare, disease prevention, and early detection in communities, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
“This support is a token of appreciation and encouragement to the selfless work done by our VHTs and CHEWs,” she said.
“They are the frontline defenders of our health system and must be empowered if we are to achieve meaningful socio-economic transformation.”
The UGX 10 million will be distributed across various sub-counties in Maracha, with funds earmarked for facilitation, transport support, and procurement of basic health outreach tools.Health workers welcomed the gesture, noting that it comes at a time when the sector faces funding and logistical challenges.
The event has sparked positive feedback on social media, with many lauding Hon. Driwaru for her practical support and people-centered leadership.
