In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the West Nile region, a senior police officer faces serious allegations of defiling a one-year-nine-month-old child, who happens to be the daughter of a fellow police officer. The case, which has the potential to shatter trust within the force, has prompted the victim's family to seek justice within the confines of the Arua Police barracks. 

West Nile regional police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, confirmed the disturbing news, revealing that 

the territorial police in Arua Central Business Division are currently investigating the case of Aggravated Defilement. The accused, Otim Thomas, a 49-year-old male adult and a police officer attached to the Police Professional Standard Unit (PSU), allegedly committed this heinous act on the 9th of October, 2023, within the confines of Arua Police barracks.

According to the preliminary information, the distressing incident transpired around midday when the suspect, Otim Thomas, allegedly lured the victim, a female juvenile aged only 1 year and 9 months, into his room within the police barracks. After a short period, the traumatized child returned to her mother in tears, reporting that something terrible had happened to her. Sensing something amiss, the mother quickly examined her child and realized that the innocent toddler had fallen victim to a grave offense. 

In response to the distressing situation, the mother wasted no time and promptly registered a case of Aggravated Defilement at the Arua Central Business Division. The victim's statement was obtained through her mother, and the child was immediately examined and provided with necessary medical attention at the Arua Regional Referral hospital, with the medical assessment documented on Police Form 3A. he accused, Otim Thomas, was swiftly apprehended and subjected to an examination as per Police Form 24A. Furthermore, the crime scene was carefully inspected and documented as part of the ongoing investigation. Subsequently, a comprehensive case file was assembled and forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for review, legal advice, and further action. As the investigation unfolds, the suspect remains in detention, awaiting further inquiries and proceedings under Arua Central Business Division's Case Reference Number 900/2023. 

The entire community, particularly the victim's family, now looks to the legal system for justice and accountability. The shocking and deeply disturbing nature of this case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of a thorough and impartial investigation. It underscores the gravity of the alleged offense and the urgent need for swift and decisive legal action.
