Yumbe, Uganda – March 28, 2025 – The government has intensified efforts to regulate mining activities in Yumbe District, with a commitment to revoking licenses of illegal alluvial miners and organizing artisanal miners for proper licensing.

During a visit to various mining sites along riverbanks and streams, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, together with the district leadership, assessed ongoing mining operations and pledged to enforce compliance with legal requirements.

"All exploration license holders who have been carrying out illegal activities shall have their licenses revoked. At the same time, we will work on organizing artisanal miners for proper licensing," Minister Nyamutoro stated.

The visit coincided with the 23rd session of the District Council meeting, where leaders resolved to attract more investors to explore and develop other industrial mineral potentials in Yumbe beyond gold mining.

This move aligns with the government's broader strategy to promote responsible mining, prevent environmental degradation, and ensure that local communities benefit from mineral resources through regulated operations.

The crackdown on illegal mining and the push for industrial mineral development signal a new phase in Yumbe's economic transformation, with authorities keen on fostering sustainable resource management and investment in the sector.
