The political landscape in Northern Uganda is heating up as Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua has officially declared his candidacy for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda. In a video posted on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, Obua made his ambitions clear, calling on fellow party members and leaders to support his bid.

Addressing Ugandans and members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Obua stated:

“Fellow Ugandans, especially the leaders and members of NRM. I greet and salute you all. I am seeking your support and mandate to serve as the NRM Vice Chairperson Northern Uganda.”

His announcement signals a strategic move to solidify his influence within the party and strengthen the NRM’s political base in Northern Uganda.

Obua is a seasoned politician within the NRM, currently serving as Government Chief Whip and Chairperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, a powerful position he holds by virtue of his ministerial role. His leadership in Parliament has placed him at the center of critical policy decisions, making him a key figure in the party’s decision-making structures.

Obua’s decision to contest for NRM Vice Chairperson Northern Uganda is seen as a calculated step to consolidate support in the region. Northern Uganda remains a crucial political stronghold for the NRM, and having a strong and experienced leader at the helm could further solidify the party’s grip ahead of future elections.

If elected, Obua will play a pivotal role in:

✅ Mobilizing support for the NRM in Northern Uganda

✅ Bridging the gap between grassroots structures and the party leadership

✅ Strengthening party unity and cohesion in the region

With this declaration, Obua officially enters the race, setting the stage for a competitive contest. As the NRM gears up for internal elections, all eyes will be on how he navigates the political landscape to secure the support needed for victory.
