Cases of gender base violence in West Nile sub region is on the rise, according to the police report of 2022 from the month of January to August, the police of the area has recorded 447 cases of gender base violence against both men and women. The regional head of child and family protection of West Nile sub region, Jimmy Anguyo while addressing journalists in Arua city on Thursday 28th/09/2022 at Arua central police station revealed that the vice is escalating with them having recorded the first case of gender base violence on men by their women in the region.
As per the 2021 Uganda Police reports on the number of Domestic violence cases registration and reporting data for West Nile, there has been an increase on the number of such cases as the report indicates a rise in figures to 414 as of 2022. Of these; defilement had 219, domestic violence 186, rape 12 and 3 indecent assault cases.

The police reports of 2022 on cases of gender base violence indicates that there are 135 cases of defilement,10 cases of rape, 298 cases of Domestic violence and 02 cases of indecent assault ,among others, of which of the 298 cases of domestic violence was against men by their women. Jimmy Angyuyo attributed the causes of the increasing cases of the gender base violence in the area to rampant consumption of alcohol, drug abuse, poverty, having multiple sex partners And so on.
The regional police public relation officer of the sub region, Josephine also noted that most of the cases of gender bases violence registered with them are on teenagers from the age of 18 years below.
SP. Gasper Obigu_onzi one of the police officials in the area says that most of the cases registered on gender base violence in both police and in court are always withdrawn due to pressure from the relatives and weak law in the country.
The gender Based violence Dashboard report published by Relief web on September 23, 2021, indicates that between January to June 2021, a total of 2,542 new GBV incidences from 13 refugee hosting districts in Uganda were registered, 94 percent of the survivors were female while 4 percent were male.
