Maracha District, Uganda – April 24, 2025 — Tragedy struck at Agai Trading Center in Maracha District on Thursday evening following a fiery road accident involving three motorcycles, a bicycle, and a tricycle.

According to an eyewitness account, the accident was sparked by a speeding fuel smuggler riding a motorcycle who collided with a tricycle. The impact triggered a fire, igniting the highly flammable fuel the smuggler was carrying and engulfing the motorcycle and its rider in flames.

In the chaos that followed, two other speeding motorcycles and a bicycle rammed into the blaze, unable to stop in time. The three motorcycles were reduced to ashes, while two riders sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Oluvu Health Centre III for emergency treatment.

Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, with local leaders urging motorists to observe speed limits and desist from dangerous fuel smuggling practices that continue to threaten lives on West Nile roads.
