In a concerning development, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Engineer Patrick Oboi Amuriat, along with Members of Parliament from Teso, including Honorable Joan Acom Alobo and Honorable Jonathan Ebwalu, have been arrested and taken from Soroti City. The FDC's official communication channels report that the reasons for their detention and their current whereabouts are unknown.

This incident adds to a series of confrontations between FDC leaders and Ugandan security forces. Notably, in July 2022, Amuriat and approximately 70 party members were detained during the Soroti East Division parliamentary by-election. Security operatives reportedly raided the Elysian guest house in Soroti City, arresting FDC members who were to serve as polling agents.

The FDC has previously accused security agencies of interfering in their political activities, alleging that such actions aim to suppress opposition voices. The party has called for the immediate release of their detained leaders and demanded transparency regarding the circumstances of these arrests.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Ugandan authorities concerning the arrests or the charges, if any, against Amuriat and the other detained FDC members. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
