Yumbe, Uganda – April 1, 2025 – A devastating fire outbreak in Yumbe Central Ward has left 19 families homeless after their grass-thatched houses were reduced to ashes. The inferno, which broke out on Monday afternoon, caused major losses, destroying property and livelihoods.

Local authorities reported that the fire spread rapidly due to the dry conditions prevalent in the West Nile region during this season. Police and community members worked together to contain the blaze before it could spread further. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, but several families have lost essential household items, food supplies, and livestock.

Local authorities have also urged residents to take precautions to prevent similar disasters in the future, including proper handling of fire sources and adherence to fire safety measures.

This incident adds to the growing concerns over fire outbreaks in West Nile, with authorities considering stronger fire management strategies to protect vulnerable communities during the dry season.
