Gulu City, March 30, 2025 – A tragic accident in Te-Dam Village, Bardege, along Airfield Road, has claimed the life of Private Dr. Olinde John, a 30-year-old driver attached to the SPAD/Chairman OWC under Retired General Salim Saleh.

According to police reports, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:30 AM as Olinde John was driving a black Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number UP 9819, back to Gen. Saleh’s residence. The vehicle had been left idling with the keys inside before it sped off uncontrollably, leading to the devastating accident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, traveling at high speed, swerved sharply to the right, mounted the roadside, and crashed into a palm tree. The impact was so severe that the Land Cruiser split into two parts.

Sadly, Olinde John succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His passenger, 28-year-old Oluka Dan, sustained injuries and was rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

A team of officers from the Gulu City Central Police Station (CPS), led by Sgt. Guma and assisted by Cpl. Odur, PC Ebong, and the patrol crew, quickly arrived at the scene. They documented the incident and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

The wreckage of the vehicle was towed to Gulu City CPS, where it awaits inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Meanwhile, the deceased’s body was transported to the 4th Division Military Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
