Today, 20 women from the Ngarakita Alimuri Group in Dama Village were empowered with valuable Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) skills, marking a significant milestone in the community’s pursuit of financial independence.
The training, facilitated by Madam Gloria Kanini, the Acting Community Development Officer (CDO) of Itula Sub-County, was implemented in partnership with GIZ Uganda and supported by Germany Cooperation (BMZ) and the European Union (EU) in Uganda.
The women were introduced to key financial concepts, including building a savings culture, accessing credit for business growth, and maintaining financial discipline through proper loan repayment.
These sessions are designed to foster a mindset of financial responsibility and equip the participants with the necessary tools to improve their livelihoods.
Highlights of the training included:
Savings meeting – Encouraging a culture of saving among the group members, helping them to build wealth steadily.
Loan meeting – Educating the participants on how to access credit for growth opportunities, ensuring they can finance their ventures.
Loan repayment meeting – Emphasizing the importance of timely repayments and financial discipline to maintain the credibility of the savings group.
Share-out/action-audit – Giving the women an opportunity to reap the benefits of their collective savings and efforts.
To ensure proper financial management, each woman and youth group also received saving kits, designed to promote secure recordkeeping and safeguard their savings. The kits will allow the participants to track their financial progress, manage their loans and repayments, and ultimately build a more sustainable financial future.
This initiative stands as a testament to the power of education and community empowerment, providing the tools and knowledge needed for women to take charge of their financial destinies and contribute to the growth of their families and communities.
