The Ministry of Education and Sports, under the leadership of First Lady Janet Museveni, has shortlisted 1,374 teachers and non-teaching staff for government payroll positions in secondary seed schools across West Nile. This recruitment exercise, conducted by the Education Service Commission (ESC), is part of the UGIFT (Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer) program aimed at improving education in the region.
The shortlisted candidates were selected for teaching and non-teaching positions under Cluster Nine, which covers West Nile. Positions include Education Officers (EOs), Assistant Education Officers (AEOs), and Non-Teaching Staff (NTS) such as Senior Accountant Assistants, Nurses, Stenographer Secretaries, Library Assistants, and Laboratory Assistants. The recruitment was in response to ESC Advertisement No. 4/2024, which was published on December 23, 2024.
The aptitude tests for the shortlisted candidates will take place on April 15 and 16, 2025, at different centers in the region. On April 15, candidates for Education Officer roles will sit the test at the Muni University Centre for schools including Kerwa Seed SS Yumbe, Drajini Hill Seed SS, and Ndhew Seed SS Nebbi. Assistant Education Officers, Stenographer Secretaries, and Senior Assistant Accountants will take their tests the following day, April 16, at the same venue.
Other locations for the aptitude tests include Mvara SS Centre in Arua and St. Joseph's College Ombachi in Arua. Candidates shortlisted for Laboratory Assistants, Library Assistants, and Enrolled Nurses will also sit their tests at Mvara SS Centre on April 16, 2025.
Dr. Asuman Lukwago, Secretary to the Education Service Commission, emphasized that all shortlisted candidates must attend the tests as scheduled and bring their National Identity Cards for verification. He further clarified that applicants whose names do not appear on the list for Cluster Nine should consider themselves unsuccessful.
The ESC also reminded applicants that all services provided during this recruitment process are free of charge, following previous allegations of corruption in the hiring process where teaching jobs were reportedly sold for as much as UGX 2 million. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and fair recruitment process.
For the complete schedule and further instructions, candidates are advised to refer to the Education Service Commission's official communications.
