Arua District Council has postponed the district celebration of this year's National Resistance Movement (NRM) Liberation Day to February 7th, 2025, to enable them to raise more resources.
The decision was made by the Central Organizing Committee for the event, which is commemorated annually on January 26th to mark the day the NRM government came to power.
Arua District Council Speaker, Lawino Buatre, confirms that the event will be held next month as it allows time to mobilize resources.
"The reason is that we had not prepared enough, because this is a big celebration not only for the staff at district but it involves community in Arua" she said.

Members of the Central Organizing Committee for the event hope that the postponement will enable the district to mobilize resources to organize a successful event on the new date set by the committee.
The district budgeted UGX 16 million for the event, and this will partly be financed partners operating in the district. The belated celebration will be held at Eruba Primary School on February 7th, 2025.
Arua District Chairperson, Alfred Okuonzi, acknowledges that the decision to postpone the event is an opportunity for adequate preparation, noting that other stakeholders and leaders will also attend.
"We have postponed celebration of the day because we are all in the mood of celebrating at the national level and for we will also get amble time to organize" the District Chairperson expressed.
