Arua, Uganda – As Easter approaches, Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki of the Arua Catholic Diocese has called on Christians to mark the season with deep faith, family unity, and acts of charity. In his Easter message delivered during a press briefing, the Bishop urged the faithful to begin their celebration with Holy Mass and continue in the spirit of prayer and togetherness.“Start the Easter celebration with Mass, go home and celebrate with your family,” Bishop Sabino emphasized, encouraging Christians to reflect on the love, sacrifice, and gratitude that characterize the season. He extended heartfelt appreciation to all believers for their spiritual devotion throughout the 40-day Lenten period of fasting, prayer, and charity. “Thank you for expressing the love of God and love for one another. This is what is demanded of us as Christians,” he said, praying for blessings upon those who had observed the Lenten sacrifices faithfully.Highlighting the Holy Week program, Bishop Sabino outlined key liturgical events:
Bishop Sabino made a passionate appeal for increased generosity during the Good Friday collection, stressing its importance in supporting Christian communities affected by conflict and hardship, particularly in the Holy Land.“The Holy Father has asked all dioceses worldwide to contribute more generously this year,” he noted. “Last year, Arua Diocese contributed 10 million shillings. We hope to double that amount this year.”He also reminded the faithful that this Easter falls within the Jubilee Year 2025, which carries the theme "Pilgrims of Hope." He urged Christians to hold firm in their faith amidst global challenges.“Despite all odds, sufferings, and the evil in the world today, let us remain strong and hopeful. With God, all these trials will come to pass,” he stated. “May this Easter celebration strengthen our hope for a better society, a better world, and eternal life.”Addressing the clergy, Bishop Sabino encouraged spiritual renewal as they prepare to recommit themselves during the Chrism Mass. He praised priests for their tireless service across the diocese, urging continued collaboration in strengthening the Christian community.“Our preparation as Christians starts with prayer, listening to the Word of God, celebrating the sacraments, and meditating on the gift of life,” he said. “Prayer also strengthens our unity as Christians and our relationship with others.”The Bishop’s message was a stirring reminder of the true meaning of Easter—a call to faith, unity, and compassionate action, rooted in hope for a brighter future.
