Joy and emotions defined the first ever inter-secondary school Qur'an recitation competition organized by the Muslim Union of Students of Arua (M.U.S.A.) on Sunday. The event held at Arua Secondary School attracted 13 schools that presented participants who recited verses from different juzz (divisions) of the holy Qur'an.

These include Mvara SS, Standard College, Arua SS, Soma SS, Arua Islamic SS, Najjah Muslim SS, Cornerstone SS, Muni Girls SS, St. Mary's Ediofe Girls SS, Arua Public SS, Arua Town SS, Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing, and Arua Institute of Health Science.

While speaking at this event, Secretary for Education in Arua Central Division, Akida Amin, pledged Uganda Muslim Supreme Council support towards the activities of the association, which he says plays a key role in preparing students.

"What M.U.S.A. needs now is movement and guidance," he says.Juruga Abdul Hamid, who was the guest of honor at this event, encouraged all the participants to continue with a positive mindset."

Everyone is a winner because this gathering is being witnessed from all angles. I gave special appreciation to those who recited; I saw zeal, love for the Quran, and confidence in them," Juruga encourages.

WINNERS REWARDED

Mwana Iman Adinan, a student of Arua SS, emerged as the overall winner in the female category, and she was immediately followed by Sauda Muhammad of Standard College as runner-up.

In the male category, Soma SS student Abdul Hamid was declared the overall winner, and Hussein Andima of Mvara SS was the runner-up.

Overall winners in each category received trophies supported by 150,000/= soap and scholastic materials, while runner-ups were given trophies backed by 50,000/= soap and scholastic materials. Other participants were also given scholastic materials.

The association is, however, planning to organize another Qur'an recitation competition ahead of Eid-Al-Adhuha, about 2 months after Ramadhan.
