Arua City Unites in the Fight Against Malaria: Walk Against Malaria Campaign Draws Hundreds

April 10, Arua City — Arua City came alive this Thursday morning as hundreds of residents turned up for the Walk Against Malaria, a nationwide awareness campaign spearheaded by the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Malaria. The event, led by Chief Walker Hon. Geoffrey Feta, MP for Ayivu East, kicked off at 7:30 AM from the OPM Grounds.

With the theme “Step by Step to a Malaria-Free Uganda,” the walk attracted leaders, youth groups, health workers, and community members determined to raise their voices against one of Uganda’s deadliest yet preventable diseases.

Hon. Geoffrey Feta emphasized the urgent need for community action and political commitment to end malaria, especially in high-burden areas like West Nile.

> "No child should die of malaria," Hon. Feta declared. "We are walking today because we believe a malaria-free Uganda is possible. The fight begins with awareness and community participation."

Participants marched through the major streets of Arua City, waving placards with messages such as “Stop Malaria Now!”, “Protect Our Children”, and “Sleep Under a Treated Net”. The walk also featured educational sessions on malaria prevention, testing, and treatment.

The Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Malaria reaffirmed its commitment to policy reforms and increased funding to ensure consistent access to mosquito nets, timely treatment, and public education campaigns.

Local residents applauded the effort, expressing hope that the visibility of such campaigns would drive lasting change.

> “We’ve lost too many people to malaria, especially children under five. This walk gives us hope and unites us in the fight,” said Rose Atim, a health volunteer from Arua Hill Division.

As the walk concluded, organizers called on individuals, institutions, and development partners to sustain the momentum and support grassroots efforts to eliminate malaria in West Nile and across Uganda.

The Walk Against Malaria continues to other regions, reinforcing the message that together, step by step, Uganda can be malaria-free.
