Arua City, Uganda – March 25, 2025 – Arua City Council has allocated 100 million Ugandan shillings for the acquisition of land to construct a modern abattoir. The initiative aims to improve hygiene standards, enhance meat processing, and support the growing demand for quality meat products in the region.
Speaking about the project, city officials emphasized the importance of having a well-equipped slaughterhouse that meets health and safety regulations. "This is a crucial step in ensuring that meat sold in Arua is processed in a clean and controlled environment," said a council representative.
The proposed modern abattoir is expected to boost the local economy by creating jobs and improving the supply chain for butchers and meat vendors. Additionally, it will replace the existing slaughter facilities, which have been criticized for poor sanitation and inefficiency.
Stakeholders, including local traders and health officials, have welcomed the move, urging authorities to expedite the process to meet the growing demand for quality meat products. The council is now in the process of identifying suitable land for the project, with further updates expected in the coming weeks.
This development aligns with Arua City’s broader urban development plan, which seeks to modernize infrastructure and improve service delivery for residents.
