President Museveni Presides Over Historic Hybrid UPDF Pass-Out Ceremony of 10,007 Soldiers

Kaweweta, Uganda – April 28, 2025

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), today presided over a landmark hybrid pass-out ceremony for 10,007 newly trained soldiers at the Basic Military Training School in Kaweweta.

In a first-of-its-kind event, the ceremony utilized virtual platforms to link recruits from multiple UPDF training centers across the country, marking a major technological innovation in military graduations. This hybrid approach allowed simultaneous participation and coordination between several training schools without the need for physical convergence.

The soldiers hailed from Kaweweta Military Training School, Airborne Training School, Amilcar Cabral Training Wing (Special Forces Command) in Nakasongola, Sera Kasenyi SFC, Olilim Recruit Training School in Katakwi, Labwordwong Recruit Training School in Agago, Abim Training School, and Ruhengyere SFC Training School in Mbarara.

Addressing the graduates, President Museveni congratulated the new soldiers for their discipline and resilience throughout the rigorous training period. He emphasized the critical role the UPDF plays in securing Uganda's peace, stability, and continued socio-economic development.

"This graduation is not just about numbers; it is a demonstration of our growing capability and readiness to defend our sovereignty using modern technology and coordinated efforts," President Museveni stated.

The hybrid pass-out also reflects UPDF’s commitment to integrating innovation and technology into its operations, an initiative expected to continue shaping the future of Uganda’s military training and administration.

The event was attended by top UPDF leadership, government officials, and families of the recruits who followed the ceremony through virtual streams from different centers.
