Gulu District, April 3, 2025 – In a shocking turn of events, popular Northern Uganda singer and self-proclaimed traditional healer, Maria A, has been arrested for allegedly practicing witchcraft against fellow musicians and political figures.
The dramatic arrest occurred on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Lukome village, Gulu District, after locals raised alarm over suspicious rituals being conducted in the area. According to eyewitnesses, several artists who had been monitoring her movements, following tip-offs from concerned residents, coordinated to apprehend her and subsequently handed her over to authorities without incident.
Maria A, widely known for her hit song "Kwo Wilobo", was reportedly caught red-handed with photographs and personal items believed to belong to various Northern Ugandan celebrities and political leaders. Among the names retrieved during the bust were musicians Bosmic Otim, Cool Boy, Tito Okello, Winnie BK, Tony Eii, and Sylvia Owori Damalie. Also shockingly listed was MP Lamwaka Catherine.
Authorities confirmed that the singer is currently being held at Awach Police Station as investigations continue. Speaking on the matter, a local police officer said:
“She is currently in our custody, and we are working closely with cultural leaders and legal experts to determine the appropriate charges. Witchcraft-related offenses remain sensitive and culturally complex in this region.”
The motive behind the alleged bewitching is still unclear, but some speculate it could be tied to rivalry in the music industry or political influence.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry in Northern Uganda, with many calling for thorough investigations and justice. Social media has since erupted with mixed reactions, with fans expressing disbelief while others demand accountability.
This case adds to the growing tension between cultural beliefs, superstition, and modern justice in Uganda, especially in the creative and political circles.
