The upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in 2024, promises to be a landmark event in African football history. 

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a historic increase in prize money, making this year's tournament the largest in CHAN's history.

CAF has announced a 75% boost in the prize money for the 2025 edition. 

The winning team will now receive a staggering UGX 12.7 billion—an increase from the previous UGX 7.5 billion. 

Additionally, the total prize pool for the tournament has been expanded by 32%, reaching UGX 38.6 billion, setting a new benchmark for CHAN competitions.

CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament’s growth, stating, 

“We are investing in African football to make it more appealing and accessible to football fans across the continent and around the world.”

CHAN 2025 kicks off on Saturday, 1 February, and concludes with the final match on Friday, 28 February with a total of 19 countries who have secured qualification, including host nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. 

Other strong contenders, such as Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are ready to compete. Two more teams will join through remaining qualifiers, broadening the competitive field.

Partnership with Canal+

A groundbreaking partnership with Canal+ International has been formed to identify and nurture young African sports reporters as part of the CAF African School Football Championship. 

This initiative will provide aspiring journalists with invaluable opportunities to grow in the media landscape, alongside fostering football talent.
