Arua City, March 19, 2025 — In a swift and decisive turn of events, the ban that was yesterday imposed on two prominent secondary schools—St. Joseph's College Ombaci and Mvara Secondary School—has been officially lifted.
The decision was announced today by the Assistant Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Arua Central Division, who is also currently serving as the Acting RCC for Arua City, in conjunction with Arua City Council authorities.
The ban, which had raised considerable public attention and debate, was initially enforced due to undisclosed administrative and regulatory concerns believed to be connected to the conduct and management of the ongoing school games. However, after a high-level consultative meeting held earlier today involving city authorities, school representatives, sports officials, and security stakeholders, a resolution was reached to allow the two schools to resume their participation.
According to the Acting RCC, the lifting of the ban comes after both schools showed commitment to adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Arua City Council and sports governing bodies.
"We have had constructive engagements with the administrations of St. Joseph's College Ombaci and Mvara SS. They have assured us of their cooperation and compliance moving forward. Therefore, in the spirit of promoting sportsmanship, talent development, and harmony within our education sector, we have decided to allow them to continue with the remaining fixtures scheduled for tomorrow," the Acting RCC stated during a press briefing at the Arua City Council headquarters.
The City Sports Committee Chairperson also confirmed that the necessary security and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth running of the remaining games.
"Our priority is the safety and well-being of the students, as well as maintaining the integrity of the competition. We appreciate the quick intervention by the city leadership and the positive response from the schools," he remarked.
Parents, students, and alumni from both schools have welcomed the decision, expressing relief and gratitude. Social media platforms have since been awash with congratulatory messages and renewed support for the participating teams.
The remaining games are set to resume tomorrow as per the initial schedule, with thousands of spectators and supporters expected to flock the venues to witness the conclusion of the highly competitive sports event.
This development marks a significant moment in fostering dialogue and understanding between education stakeholders and local authorities in Arua City, setting an example of conflict resolution and collaboration.
