Leaders of West Nile sub region under their umbrella body of West Nile development association [WENDDA] has unveiled a five year strategy plan to start horticulture project[Growing vegetable] Across the area aiming at eliminating the high rate of poverty in the region. While addressing the stakeholders during the annual general assembly of west Nile development association [WENDA] on Thursday 13th/10/2022, at Muni university, the chairman of the Association who doubles as the local council five chairperson of Moyo district, William Anyama explained that they have found out the region loses UGX 11 billion each financial year by importing vegetables like tomatoes, cabbages ,carrots among others from outside the region. He further added that as the leaders they have resolved and came up with action plans that will enable the region to be one of the region known for production of vegetable for export that will create job employment opportunities to the people in the area.

According to the recent research done by Makerere university business school [MUBS] ,Arua branch, about 71 percent [39,273crates] of tomatoes consumed in the region comes from outside the region and also the region loses UGX 11 billion every financial year due to importation of V vegetable from outside the region. John Ariko Okelai, a lecturer of Makerere university business school [MUBS], Arua campus revealed that they have joined hands together with leaders in the area to ensure the strategy plan they have developed is implemented to the dot.

The state minister for Northern Uganda, Grace KwioCwiny says that the region is having plenty of land but people in the area are not using it properly.

One of the tomatoes growers in Terego district, identified as Fred Ecoko from Olua village, Lubari parish, Odupi Sub County testified that in a period of two years he has got UGX 20 billion with the farming business that he started with UGX 250,000 only which has enable him to employed 10 youth that were jobless in the area.
