Madi Okollo District, Uganda* – Police in Madi Okollo District are investigating a violent clash that erupted in Oguruku Cell, Enyio Ward, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man and the destruction of over 300 huts. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 15, 2025, has left the community in shock and mourning.
According to police reports, the violence began during an introduction ceremony at a disco in Oguruku Village. A brawl broke out, leading to the tragic death of Angundru Arnold, a resident of Parandra Cell. The altercation left 19 people injured, including seven from Parandra Cell and twelve from Oguruku Cell. The injured have been admitted to various health centers in Madi Okollo District for treatment.
The situation escalated when a group of youth from Parandra Cell retaliated by attacking Oguruku Cell, setting over 300 huts ablaze. The fire caused widespread destruction, displacing numerous families and leaving many without shelter. The body of the deceased was transferred to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
In response to the violence, police have deployed additional officers to the area to prevent further escalation and restore calm. SP Asea Collins, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Regional Community Liaison Officer (RCLO) of the West Nile region Police, addressed the media, urging both communities to remain peaceful as investigations continue.
"We strongly urge both communities to remain peaceful as investigations into the incident continue," said SP Asea Collins. "We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for this violence are brought to justice."
Authorities have assured residents that a thorough investigation is underway and that all parties involved will be held accountable. The police are working closely with local leaders to mediate and prevent further outbreaks of violence.
